Sergeant W. George Mahood

Sergeant W. George Mahood was a local man, who served with the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) between 1940 and 1946. He served in both the 7th and 12th Battalions.

In civilian life Mahood was a clerk, and this was the role he took on in The Cameronians. We have a record of examinations he took whilst in the army, which may have helped him get a job when he returned to civilian life. Mahood served in the Faroe Islands, where he met his wife Elise. They returned to South Lanarkshire when Sgt. Mahood left the army.

We have a large collection of objects that belonged to Sgt. Mahood in the collection, some of which can be found in the ‘civilians’ display in this gallery.
